Baruch Alumni Network Is Among the Best for Public Schools in U.S.
Earns “Top 20” ranking by The Princeton ReviewNovember 22, 2021
Baruch College’s network of alumni ranks as one of the top 20 in the nation among public schools, according to a recent ranking by The Princeton Review. The “Top 20 Best Alumni Networks” list is based on college student ratings of alumni activity and visibility on campus.
“This national recognition brings to light the vibrancy, diversity, and community spirit that distinguishes Baruch College’s alumni network,” says President S. David Wu. “Baruch pride resonates throughout our alumni network, with members eager to support the next generation of Baruch students. It is wonderful our students recognized this commitment in The Princeton Review.”
A Global Network; Giving Back to Baruch
Baruch’s robust alumni network—boasting more than 160,000 people—spans across the world. Within this global group are graduates who have leveraged their college education and found success through their unique endeavors, from securing top positions at global and national firms, to being elected to public offices, to pioneering innovation as change makers in the business and private sectors.
The alumni—despite where they live and work or years since their graduation—consistently give back to their alma mater in numerous ways that immensely benefit students.
“Time and time again, alumni share that they would not have experienced their success without having attended Baruch College. These alumni see themselves in today’s students and generously share their time and expertise in appreciation of the support they themselves received as Baruch students,“ said Janet B. Rossbach, Director, Alumni Relations and Volunteer Relations who has stewarded Baruch’s Alumni Network for the past seven years.
Baruch College’s Executives on Campus Mentoring Program is one way alumni actively support Baruch students. Each year, Executives on Campus matches 1000+ students to 600+ Baruch alumni and non-alumni mentors for short and long-term mentoring pairings. Alumni also frequently speak in Baruch’s classrooms, attend networking events, and importantly, recruit and hire Baruch students as interns, summer associates and full-time employees.
Concurrently, Baruch alumni financially support Baruch’s mission of providing an excellent, affordable education for students from all backgrounds.
In the last few years alone, alumni have given back to Baruch in ways that are not only impactful but also transformational for students, for example:
- Last year, thousands of alumni fueled the success of Stand Up for Baruch, a $5 million Baruch College Fund (BCF) initiative to address areas of urgent need.
- Over 1,400 alumni, faculty and staff helped fund the recently completed Clivner=Field Plaza, that created a much-needed, open green space on East 25th Street for the enjoyment of Baruch’s campus community, neighbors, and all New Yorkers.
A New Initiative: Connecting Alumni in Companies
The Office of Alumni Relations and Volunteer Engagement recently launched an initiative to establish corporate alumni networks with some of Baruch’s top employers. “The purpose of these networks,” said Rossbach, “is to create connections among Baruch graduates who work at the same company encouraging internal mentor and sponsorship; to develop new talent pipelines between employers and Baruch’s four career offices; to reconnect alumni with the College; and to encourage volunteering, mentoring, and giving back.“
In September, the Office launched the Baruch @ UBS Network and celebrated its deep partnership with Citi earlier this month. Virtual alumni events will take place with EY, Deloitte, KPMG, Goldman Sachs, Grant Thornton, EisnerAmper, Google and Citizen’s Bank between now and January 2022.
