The Baruch College Athletics Department marked National Girls & Women in Sports Day on February 19 with a spirited luncheon celebrating the strength, resilience, and leadership of women in sports.

Bringing together 82 student-athletes, coaches, and administrators, the event underscored Baruch’s commitment to empowering the next generation of women leaders—on the court, in the classroom, and beyond.

“Celebrating this event at Baruch College is about more than recognizing athletic achievement — it is about affirming the power of sport as a vehicle for confidence, leadership, and opportunity for women,” said Heather MacCulloch, director of athletics and recreation.

    Building Leaders Through Sports

Each year, National Girls & Women in Sports Day honors the achievements of women athletes and the role of sports in advancing equity and opportunity.

At Baruch, the celebration took on a deeply personal tone. Student-athletes shared powerful reflections on mentorship, teamwork, perseverance, and the confidence they have developed through collegiate competition.

Remarks were delivered by Aishika Yadav (Economics ’28) from Women’s Tennis, swimmer Imani Gonzalez (Psychology ’26), softball player Grace Osuch (Psychology ’26), D’Andre McRae (Public Administration ’26) who is part of the Women’s Basketball team, cross country team captain Julie-Ann Deysel (Finance ’28), and volleyball team captain Dibjot Kaur (Finance ’26).

“In 2026, participation in athletics for Baruch’s women student-athletes represents belonging, resilience, and the ability to see themselves as leaders both on campus and after graduation,” MacCulloch said.

“Through sport, our student athletes develop discipline, self-advocacy, and a lifelong belief that they deserve space at every table. This celebration honors not only how far women’s sports have come, but our continued commitment to equity, access, and excellence for the next generation of Bearcats.”
