Baruch College Alum Offered U.S. Fulbright English Teaching Award to Argentina
April 17, 2018
Jaclyn Callery (’17), an alumna of Baruch College’s Marxe School of Public and International Affairs has been offered a U.S. Fulbright English Teaching Award to Argentina. She is the tenth Baruch College student offered this prestigious award.
Callery, who earned a Master of Arts in Higher Education Administration, has experience studying abroad and volunteering in Belgium, Thailand, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti.
“I studied Spanish in high school and college and try to keep my language skills sharp. Teaching English to young adults in Argentina will give me the opportunity to serve as an ambassador between two cultures,” said Callery. “Learning all that I can about the language, history, and lifestyle will help me become a better communicator in Argentina and I can use those skills when I come home.”
As a study abroad advisor here at Baruch, Callery looked to the Office of National and Prestigious Fellowships Advising to help with her application to the U.S. Fulbright program.
“Since I plan to continue to work in international exchange, I would have strong insight into how higher education institutions work in countries outside of the U.S. The ETA would not only provide me with access to the Argentine university system overall and give me an opportunity to observe their approach to globalization, but will also allow me to observe their student support services.”
Callery added, “I can encourage more students to study in the U.S. by helping them to become more confident in their English language abilities.”
