Baruch College will join thousands of organizations and volunteers across the nation to promote National Voter Registration Day, a nonpartisan event that aims to increase voter participation in upcoming elections.

Baruch’s Undergraduate Student Government (USG) will lead the campus-wide effort by hosting two events: Tuesday, Sept. 24 and Thursday, Sept. 26 between 12:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. Student volunteers will help people register to vote for the first time or assist with their voter registrations if they have moved.

“One of our main goals this year is to increase legislature awareness within our student body,” said Dakshatha Daggala, president of Baruch College’s Undergraduate Student Government. “We want to show students that being registered to vote gives them the opportunity to choose legislators who can give back to their schools and communities.”

Daggala added, “As part of the CUNY system, we depend on funding from Albany to run our school. As students, we need to use our voice to let our legislators know how important it is to invest in higher education.”

Founded in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right – the right to vote. More than two million Americans have registered to vote on this day since the inaugural National Voter Registration Day. A broad spectrum of organizations from across the political spectrum support this nationwide event including The National Association of Secretaries of State, the National Association of State Election Directors, the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, and the National Association of Election Officials.
