Nine Baruch College professors were named to Stanford University and Elsevier’s “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list for 2024, a prestigious ranking which identifies the most influential researchers across a broad range of scientific fields.

The list evaluated more than six million scientists around the world and encompasses researchers from more than 20 diverse disciplines.

“Baruch College is proud to see members of our faculty recognized among the world’s leading researchers whose contributions are advancing the fields of social sciences, climate change, physics, information systems, and economics,” said Baruch College Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Linda Essig, MFA, PhD. “This recognition exemplifies Baruch’s commitment to innovative research, teaching, and collaboration—all which creates powerful and enduring learning experiences for our students.”

Meet Baruch’s faculty members—representing all three of the College’s schools—on this year’s list of top researchers:

Marxe School of Public and International Affairs

    • Jessica Greene, professor and Luciano Chair of Health Care Policy
    • Deborah Balk, professor and director of the CUNY Institute for Demographic Research
    • Gang He, assistant professor whose research focuses on energy and climate policy.

Weissman School of Arts and Sciences

    • Jamal Jalilian-Marian, a theoretical high energy nuclear physicist and professor of physics

    Zicklin School of Business

    • Sankar Sen, Zicklin Chair in Corporate Integrity and Governance; Allen G. Aaronson Department of Marketing
    • Scott Newbert, professor of entrepreneurship and innovation; Lawrence N. Field Chair in Entrepreneurship
    • Marios Koufaris, Interim Associate Dean, Administration and Finance; professor of information systems
    • Raquel Fich, professor, Paul H. Chook Department of Information Systems and Statistics; associate provost for Faculty Affairs, Research and Innovation
    • Theodore Joyce, professor, Bert W. Wasserman Department of Economics and Finance; research associate in the National Bureau of Economic Research’s program in Health Economics

    Methodology

The selection is based on citations from 2022 to the end of 2023 using Scopus data based on the top 100,000 scientists, or a percentile rank of 2 percent or above in their sub-field. The ranking utilizes metrics including an h-index, co-authorship adjustments, and a composite citation score (c-score), which considers a scientist’s influence and not just their publication count.
