Baruch College Named One of Nation’s Best for Economic Mobility

    November 9, 2022

    Share

For the eighth consecutive year, Baruch College ranked among the top ten schools in the nation on CollegeNET’s Social Mobility Index (SMI), which recognizes four-year institutions that are “providing access to economically disadvantaged students, graduating them, and moving them into good paying jobs.”

Among 1,414 public and private colleges and universities across the nation, Baruch placed #6.

This year, CollegeNET revised its methodology for computing the rankings so the SMI would identify those institutions that are “contributing in a responsible way to solving the dangerous problem of declining economic mobility in our country.” a mobility in our country.”

Key benchmarks, including tuition, percentage of student body whose families whose incomes are below $48,000 (slightly below the U.S. median), graduation rates, median salary approximately five years after graduation, remain in CollegeNET’s computation.

    Hallmarks of a Baruch Education

A rich tradition of academic excellence, accessibility, and outcomes are hallmarks of a Baruch education—serving a student body that is frequently recognized for being among the most diverse in the nation and representing a broad spectrum of socio-economic status.

In 2020-21, a reported 28 percent of undergraduates who filed a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) were from households with income less than $20,000—and 60 percent with less than $40,000.

Baruch’s six-year graduation rate of 74 percent stands well above the national average for first-time, full-time students entering Fall 2015.

The College continues to act on its commitment to making excellence accessible and accelerating opportunity. In October, Baruch joined the American Talent Initiative. This nationwide alliance of 131 higher education institutions is united in a shared goal to enroll, support, and graduate 50,000 additional talented, lower-income students across high-graduation-rate colleges and universities by 2025.
