October 13, 2020
Baruch College President S. David Wu, PhD, is among the “50 Top U.S. College and University Presidents,” according to College Cliffs, an online educational resource, which compiled a list of the “country’s well-renowned college and university presidents” to “celebrate their passion and dedication toward their craft” and “highlight their remarkable achievements.”
In its announcement, College Cliffs profiled Dr. Wu and noted that his “opportune arrival at Baruch College transcended a positive attitude to the institution since it is developing new teaching modalities, student services, and campus safety protocols due to the coronavirus pandemic.”
“He proactively formed a task force that will exploit the lessons acquired from the pandemic and integrate it with the school’s innovation to initiate a paradigm shift in college education.”
“Audacious and visionary leadership”
According to College Cliffs, “Baruch College will experience Dr. Wu’s audacious and visionary leadership, which he obtained from his past academic affiliations. Before his selection, he was the provost and executive VP of George Mason University, which he managed to bring in remarkable growth in innovative educational programs. He was also the dean and professor at Lehigh University.”
Dr. Wu’s recognition is shared among presidents of notable public, private and community colleges, such as LaGuardia Community College at The City University of New York, Brown University, Georgetown University, University of Pennsylvania, and Yale University.
A Recognized Innovator and Influential Leader
Dr. Wu began his Baruch College tenure on July 1, and is the first Asian-American to serve as president of a CUNY college.
Just weeks into his leadership position, Dr. Wu was named by City & State as one of New York’s most influential leaders in the Asian community on its inaugural “Power of Diversity: Asian 100” list. Two months later, City & State named Dr. Wu to its “2020 Higher Education Power 50” list which recognizes the 50 most influential people in academia throughout New York, including leaders of some of state’s best-known colleges, universities, and professional schools.
In July, Dr. Wu started a monthly blog where he shares “ideas and perspectives that impact the campus community, higher education, and society at large.” Read Dr. Wu’s blog posts for the last three months:
