City & State, the premier media organization covering New York’s politics and policy, named Baruch College President S. David Wu as one of the most influential political players in its “2023 Manhattan Power 100” list.

According to City & State, the Manhattan Power 100 “highlights the most influential political actors in the borough, including key members of Congress, powerful policymakers, trailblazing prosecutors, outspoken advocates and others who are leading the way in New York and beyond.”

President Wu was the highest ranked college president on this year’s list, placing at #43 among prominent New Yorkers, such as Bloomberg LP founder/CEO Mike Bloomberg; United Way of New York CEO Grace Bonilla; executive chair/CEO Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. James Dolan; president/CEO Northwell Health Michael Dowling; NYC Economic Development Corp vice president Gigi Li, and Manhattan Chamber of Commerce president/CEO Jessica Walker, among others.

‘Spearheading’ Initiatives for Baruch’s Diverse Student Body

In its profile of President Wu, City & State said “Baruch College has a lot in the works and spearheading it all is its president, S. David Wu. In addition to launching an independent entrepreneurship department, Wu wants to expand the college’s successful community college partnership, which Wu said would allow for Baruch to further diversify its students body.

“Baruch so far has pipeline partnerships for its business academy with Borough of Manhattan Community College, Queensborough Community College and LaGuardia Community College.”

Since President Wu’s tenure began in 2020, he has appointed new deans for each of the College’s three schools: Dr. Jessica Lang, dean of the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences and Dr. Sherry Ryan, dean of the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs in 2022, and this year, Dr. Bruce Weber, dean of the Zicklin School of Business.

Under President Wu’s leadership, Baruch College launched a major strategic planning effort in spring, 2022. The resulting plan, which will launch this fall, will help ensure that Baruch not only continues its legacy but capitalizes on the innovations of a rapidly evolving world—to scale what the College does and expand its impact, while achieving an even higher level of quality and excellence.

In 2023 alone, President Wu received the following recognitions from City & State:

    • Selected as one of 10 Lifetime Achievement Honorees for its annual “50 Over 50 List”
    • “Higher Education Power 100” list
    • “The 2023 Power of Diversity: Asian 100” list, for the fourth consecutive year
