Baruch College Provost Linda Essig Recognized as a Trailblazer in Higher Education by City & State

Baruch College Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs Linda Essig, MFA, PhD, has been recognized as a “Trailblazer in Higher Education” by City & State New York for developing groundbreaking platforms and transformative policies. She joins an elite list of influencers who have had incredible impact on college campuses, and in the field of higher education, leading the charge toward a better higher education system now and for future generations.
In its profile of Dr. Essig, City & State notes that she has “been at the forefront of innovation for the New York City institution.” Since being appointed Baruch College Provost in 2021, Dr. Essig has helped launch many initiatives including a new program for transfer students, Baruch’s Office of Experiential and Community Engaged Learning, and the Digital Learning Hub with its online masters programs.
Under her leadership, City & State recognized that Essig has “doubled research expenditures while growing full-time faculty by 10 percent and increasing instructor diversity.”
About Provost Essig
Dr. Essig’s distinguished career spans more than three decades as a faculty member and administrator at major public institutions, including previously serving as dean of the College of Arts and Letters at Cal State LA.
Dr. Essig has been published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and has authored four books, including Creative Infrastructures: Artists, Money, and Entrepreneurial Action. Dr. Essig holds a PhD in public administration and public policy from Arizona State University and an MFA from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.
