Baruch College is among the 650 higher education institutions featured in the “America’s Top College’s 2018” list just-released by Forbes. The schools were selected by Forbes based on alumni salaries, debt after graduation, student experience, academic success, and retention and graduation rate.

For all schools in the U.S., Baruch jumped 22 spots from last year—now placing at #178 compared to #200 in 2017. Baruch also claims high rankings both in the U.S. and regionally among public institutions:

    • #5: New York State, among public institutions
    • #12: Northeast region of eight states, among public intuitions
    • #51: Nationally, among public institutions
    • #178: Nationally out of 650 schools, up 22 positions from the previous year

In its Baruch College profile, Forbes highlighted that more than 30 majors and nearly 60 minors are offered at the Zicklin School of Business, the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, and the Weissman School of Arts and Sciences.

The profile also mentioned how the Field Center for Entrepreneurship “offers technology workshops and through its partnership with the College Entrepreneurial Organization, it connects students with founders and consultants.”

    Recognition for Social Mobility

Forbes also pointed to Baruch College’s success in advancing socioeconomic mobility among its students. In the profile, Forbes noted: “According to data gathered in a 2017 study led by Harvard economist Raj Chetty, the NY Times ranked Baruch in the top 10 colleges for economic mobility, meaning its students are among the most likely to move from the bottom fifth of income distribution to the top three-fifths.”

In the same week of the Forbes ranking, The Chronicle of Higher Education announced that Baruch College earned the #1 spot for social mobility in its 2018 Almanac of Higher Education, a yearly roundup of major stories and research in the world of higher education.

Recently, Money magazine recently placed Baruch College among the top 10 schools on its “Best Colleges 2018” list, based on educational quality, affordability, and alumni success. During the year, Baruch College was named a 2018 Social Mobility Innovator by CollegeNET and has ranked #1 on CollegeNET’s annual Social Mobility Index for the past three consecutive years.

    Methodology

Forbes “America’s Top Colleges 2018” list released information about “outputs” such as how a college will steer students after graduation, how likely they will find success in their chosen field, and how effectively does their school support them so they can graduate within four or six years. The ranking does not measure SAT scores and acceptance rates. The full methodology is available here.
