Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business Launches Master of Science Degree in Business Analytics
February 20, 2019
New York, NY, February 20, 2019 – Baruch College’s Zicklin School of Business announced today that it has launched a Master of Science degree in Business Analytics (MSBA). The program is accepting applications for enrollment beginning in the fall of 2019.
“Big Data is defining the 21st century,” said Nanda Kumar, associate professor of information systems at the Zicklin School of Business and the academic director of the MSBA program. “The data revolution is here, and this cutting-edge program will help students and organizations manage the transformation successfully.”
Big Data and the “data revolution” refer to the vast, ever-increasing amounts of digital information being gathered constantly by the Internet and smart phones. According to a 2018 survey of 60 leading companies by NewVantage Partners, a business management consultancy based in Boston, 97 percent of executives report that their firms are investing in Big Data initiatives. At the same time, only a third say that their organizations have successfully shifted to a data-driven culture, with nearly half (48.5 percent) citing employees as the greatest challenge to this transformation.
Zicklin’s MSBA program will help bridge this gap by offering rigorous training in the expert interpretation of data. Students will become expert analysts who can explore patterns, reveal trends, and uncover hidden relationships in the data being collected, transforming it into a catalyst for business growth.
Designed for students with a suitable background in quantitative fields such as mathematics, statistics, and programming, the 33-credit program offers flexible scheduling to fit the lifestyles of working professionals. Full-time and part-time course loads are available, as are evening and online classes.
A 2018 study by the Graduate Management Admission Council, administrator of the GMAT exam, found that 71 percent of employers planned to place graduates in data analytics roles. “The data deluge is not limited to any one industry or organization,” Kumar noted. “Graduates of the Zicklin MSBA program will find career options available in a range of fields from accounting, finance, marketing, and technology to healthcare, public service, and education.”
