Baruch’s Psychology Internship Program in Counseling Center Earns 10-Year Re-Accreditation from the American Psychological Association.

The Baruch College Counseling Center, led by Director Teresa Hurst (third from right), helps students achieve their academic and personal goals by providing culturally-responsive and trauma-informed mental health services and outreach.

Baruch College’s psychology internship program at the Counseling Center received a 10-year re-accreditation from the American Psychological Association (APA) following an intensive self-study process and on-site visit.

Today, the Baruch Counseling Center is one of only two such counseling centers in the New York area with this coveted APA accreditation, and the only one among The City University of New York colleges.

The next site visit by the APA’s Commission on Accreditation is scheduled for 2033.

“The APA accreditation is a testament to the high-quality training and supervision that our dedicated staff provides to doctoral psychology interns at our Counseling Center,” said Teresa Hurst, PhD, director of Baruch College’s Counseling Center.

According to Dr. Hurst, Baruch’s psychology internship training program offers two full-time funded positions every year. In addition to providing individual and group psychotherapy, crisis interventions and mental health workshops across the Baruch campus, the psychology interns lead the Counseling Center’s psychological testing service. Upon completion of the program, graduates are able to function as competent and ethical psychologists providing social-justice informed psychological services to individuals, groups, and organizations.
