John Alesi Voted ECAC Division III Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year
April 10, 2019
Head Men’s Basketball Coach John Alesi was voted as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year.
Alesi led the Bearcats to the CUNYAC Championship and regular season title this past season and has now led the Bearcats to the postseason for the sixth time in his seven years at the helm at Baruch.
“I am honored to be recognized by an outstanding organization in the ECAC,” said Alesi. “I’ve learned that these awards do not happen without two things: outstanding assistant coaches and very good players. I am tremendously fortunate to have both and I consider this to be a shared award with them.”
Alesi’s teams won with stifling defense as the Bearcats ranked sixth in field goal percentage (38.6) and sixth in scoring defense (62.6) within Division III.
Within the CUNYAC, they were first in blocked shots per game (4.3), field-goal percentage defense (38.6), rebound margin (5.3), scoring defense (62.6), total rebounds per game (41.8) and second in turnovers forced (17.75).
“I am thrilled to congratulate our Head Coach John Alesi on his ECAC Coach of the Year accolade,” said Baruch College Director of Athletics & Recreation Heather MacCulloch. “John works very hard and is extremely dedicated to our program and our student-athlete’s success both on and off the court and it clearly came through with this award.”
