Baruch College continues to be a recruiting hotspot for many top national and multinational companies seeking talent for their organizations, as a record number of employers attended two Fall 2022 Virtual Career Fairs hosted by the Starr Career Development Center.
The Virtual Undergraduate Job & Internship Fair drew 114 employers—setting a record for any career fair held at Baruch, while 52 employers were present at the Accounting Career Fair, the most for this industry-specific event.
“The strong interest in this semester’s career and internship events speaks to Baruch’s reputation for producing top talent that companies and organizations need for them to be successful,” said Ellen Stein, PhD, Director of the Starr Career Development Center. “It’s exciting seeing so many recruiters register and come to our events knowing that Baruch provides its students with a strong academic foundation in order to excel in their professional careers.”
The recruiting firms at both fairs included global brands, Fortune 500 companies, and impactful nonprofits, such as Accenture, American Red Cross, BNY Mellon, Citi, CVS Health, Geico, IPG Mediabrands, KPMG, and Target.
More than 940 undergraduates from Baruch’s three schools—Marxe School of Public and International Affairs, Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, and Zicklin School of Business—participated in roughly 2,000 individual sessions and 170 group meetings with employers at the Virtual Undergraduate Job & Internship Fair.
“I enjoyed my experience at the career fair. It allowed me to learn more about the opportunities at companies I was looking to apply for, as well as understand how the hiring process works and how to stay connected with the recruiter,” said a student who attended the Undergraduate Job & Internship Fair.
At the Accounting Career Fair, held in collaboration with the Zicklin Graduate Career Management Center, more than 338 undergraduate and graduate students engaged in over 1,300 individual sessions and 45 group meetings with employers.
“It was a great experience to talk with the companies’ representatives. All of them were incredibly supportive by sharing their knowledge and giving advice. I got more clarity on the process and what I need to succeed,” said one student who attended the Accounting Career Fair.
Starr Search Powered by Handshake
The Fall 2022 Career Fairs marked the first time Starr hosted such large-scale events on Handshake, a powerful recruiting system.
Now, students no longer need to wait in time-consuming virtual lines. After registering for a career fair, students signed up for 1:1 and/or group meetings with employers. Students who might not have been able to attend a physical career fair—such as working students—had the opportunity to meet with employers, even during their lunch break, thanks to Handshake’s efficient scheduling system.
On average, students who scheduled one-on-one meetings at the Job & Internship Fair met with more than three employers, with some students meeting as many as 24 employers. The new system has also benefited attending organizations, with employers meeting with 43 students on average.
