Two Baruch College Students Named 2024 Jeannette K. Watson Fellows

Baruch College students Daniel Iqbal (’27) and Mariam Moazzam (’26) are among the 15 students chosen as Jeannette K. Watson Fellows from 12 New York City colleges.
The Watson Fellowship provides three summers of paid internships with leading organization in the U.S. and around the world. Each fellow receives annual funding from $7,500 to $10,000 in addition to $2,000 to develop personal, professional, and cultural potention.
According to Watson, “Fellows go on to attend leading graduate programs, receive national and international scholarships, and become leaders in their fields.”
Meet Baruch College’s Award Winners
Daniel Iqbal: A Focus on Legal Literacy
A finance major at the Zicklin School of Business, who is also minoring in law and policy, Iqbal is thrilled to receive this prestigious award and looks to “further his self-growth and understand the broader world.”
With this Fellowship, he is interested in working for the Mayor’s Office for Economic Opportunity, Ashoka, an organization that supports leading social entrepreneurs, and the Urban Justice Center.
Following graduation, Iqbal aims to attend law school and further his mission to inform marginalized communities on legal literacy.
“Watson will allow me to delve into new areas of study, gaining a broader understanding on how to be an effective leader for the betterment of all.”
Mariam Moazzam: Future Advocate for Refugees
A computer information systems major, minoring in economics, and marketing at the Zicklin School of Business, Moazzam believes winning this award will be a pivotal turning point in her life. She will be working with the International Rescue Committee as a Resettlement, Asylum and Integration Housing intern.
“I am eager to learn about the behind-the-scenes processes that go into connecting refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants from all over the world to housing and other resources,” she says. “It will be an incredibly humbling experience.”
Moazzam aspires to continue advocacy work on an international scale, focusing on humanitarian issues, particularly advocating for refugees and providing aid. Her goal is to work with organizations like the UN or UNICEF, where she can advocate for the rights and well-being of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire of conflicts and crises worldwide.
“JK Watson has been a transformative experience, opening me up to unique opportunities I never imagined possible on my own. Through the fellowships, mentorship, support, and guidance, I have been able to push myself beyond my comfort zones and explore paths through which I can make a difference.”

Baruch College’s Office of National & Prestigious Fellowships Advising helps guide students through the steps of applying for any scholarship and award that supports their academic studies.
