Baruch College’s actuarial science major ranks #1 in New York and places #6 nationwide, making it one of the best programs in the country, according to the consulting firm AdmissionSight.

Offered through its Department of Mathematics in Baruch’s Weissman School of Arts and Sciences, the College’s Bachelor of Arts in actuarial science teaches students to apply mathematical principles and techniques to solve problems in the insurance industry, preparing students to take and pass the first five examinations given by the Society of Actuaries.

The highly structured program offers such elective options as Numerical Methods for Differential Equations in Finance, Computational Methods in Probability, Actuarial Mathematics, Mathematics of Inferential Statistics, Short-Term Insurance Mathematics, and Data Analysis and Simulation for Financial Engineers.

Graduates with a BA degree in actuarial science have a variety of career options, including actuary, economist, financial planner, researcher, and statistician, in both the private and public sector.

In 2021, Baruch’s actuarial science program earned national recognition, ranking #6 by College Values Online and #11 by College Choice.
